2. Function
This is a centrifugal-type engine coolant pump for the Cummins 6CT cooling system:
- Driven by the engine crankshaft via a V-belt.
- Draws cooled coolant from the radiator into the pump’s center inlet.
- Circulates coolant under pressure into the engine block, cylinder head, and oil cooler.
- Maintains forced circulation to dissipate heat from combustion chambers, pistons, and bearings.
- Prevents engine overheating and ensures stable operating temperature.
3. Installation Location
- Mounted: On the front side of the Cummins 6CT 8.3L engine block, below the timing gear cover.
- Position: Between the crankshaft pulley (drive side) and the engine radiator hose connections.
- Interface: Bolted directly to the water jacket of the cylinder block; inlet connects to the lower radiator hose, outlet to the engine’s internal cooling passages.
- Belt Drive: Driven by the engine’s front accessory drive belt (same belt as alternator/fan).
